Are you good enough?
One of the issues most often stopping designers from growing their business, getting the clients or type of jobs that they want, is a subconscious belief.
It’s just under the surface of their awareness and is holding them back from living their best life.
The one thing that is most often the cause is, “I’m not good enough, yet”. This little underlying belief can really keep you stuck because it causes you to lack confidence when you need it most.
For example, when the opportunity to photograph a great job comes up, you don’t do it. You just kind of mess around a little bit, then something else happens and you forget all about capturing your work.
I’m not just talking about photography, this also goes for:
- Awards
- Full practice of jobs
- Getting your work published
- Going after a big whole-house job, new construction from start to finish
The reality is that you actually are good enough NOW.
You get better with every job.
In fact, you grow with each new kind of ob you’ve never done before; those that are bigger, a bit out of your scope, a cause you to stretch.
Remember, you know more than you did last year and more than your clients.

I’d walk out the door from a meeting with a check and contract in hand, saying “This is going to be a great project. I got some great ideas and this is going to be absolutely beautiful.”
Then I’d shut my car door and think to myself, “I don’t know how I’m going to do this – I have to make some calls and get some help!”
Taking a step into the unknown is how I learned to do bigger jobs, become a bigger and more accomplished designer.
