Today, we’re going to talk about the jobs that you shouldn’t take. Those are the jobs that lose money. I want to share with you what they look like and how they can get out of control.
Smaller jobs take up more of your time and will make you less money than the bigger jobs. So, there are some challenges with doing those little things for people, even though you feel you should do it. As designers, we work from the heart. It’s who we are, and we want to help others. But jumping in without a plan doesn’t make for a profitable design business.
By planning out job requests and setting boundaries, you can determine whether it is a good fit for you before you agree to move forward. When you don’t have rules or a framework to start with, you end up spending too much time and getting too little money in the end.
It’s fine to take on anything that comes your way when you’re just starting out. However, there comes a time when you will need to take an active role in deciding which jobs are profitable and which ones to pass on.
