Feeling Like an Imposter

Have you ever felt like an imposter? It happens to everyone occasionally. It can come up if you’ve done this really great design job that was harder or required a bigger budget than what you’re used to. It worked beautifully, and your client was happy, but your internal self-talk brings up doubts.

Maybe it reminds you that you made a mistake, that you could have done better, or that another designer you know could have done a better job. It tells you that you’re an imposter or fluke, and you’re not good enough to get hired again for a similar design job.

That kind of talk will only bring you down. Why? Because it’s simply not true!

The only way you get better at design is by doing things that bigger, harder, challenging, or require you to stretch. And then you step up to the next level. Then, you can tell that negative self-talk to go away and leave you alone.

You’re a fabulous designer and good at what you do, so there’s no reason for that to happen.

Watch the video above to learn the one thing you should do as a designer to help eliminate any negative self-talk. It’s something that you don’t likely do enough of, and it’s vital to helping you rise up into who you really are.

Design isn’t about making money. It’s about creating spaces for people that they are so thrilled about that it changes their life. It’s time to step into that and own it because it’s absolutely yours. It’s not a fluke or an accident. It’s your new normal, so enjoy it!

Until next time, design something beautiful and get paid what you’re worth.
