I want to start this off with a question:
How many times have you worked on a remodel job where you know your clients want everything, down to the furniture and a beautiful reveal at the end, but you don’t get to do it because you never got to order the furniture in the first place?
And the reason why is because all the money was used up in the construction overrun. There’s nothing left, your clients are tired, and they don’t get the “fun” part at the end like they’ve seen done on TV. You also don’t get the opportunity to photograph your work because there’s nothing to shoot.
That’s why it’s essential to learn a strategy that allows you to do the furniture at the end of the job.
In your design business, you need to do a design exploratory first. By doing this, you can figure out what the job will entail, what the budget is, and who will do what. By the way, you should get paid for doing all of this. One of the pieces of doing this exploration is that you can calculate the furniture budget and include it as part of the job.
By the time you get to the end of this small Letter of Agreement, you will know exactly what the job is, and you can step into the bigger portion. And that just happens to have the furniture piece in it.
Watch the video above, where I explain another strategy that helps you keep your projects on track and when it’s best to order furniture. It may not be when you think, but there are two key reasons why you should order furniture at a specific time in the process to ensure the best possible outcome for you and your client.
These are just a few of the many strategies and techniques I teach students of Interior Design Business Academy.
