Stop Scarcity Thinking

As designers we want to be successful and have money and clients flow into our lives. Sometimes, we subconsciously block the flow that comes naturally into our lives by adopting attitudes and behaviors that stop clients and repel money.

In my coaching conversations with designers I am often hearing “I have a new client next week, but she doesn’t want much. It is just a little job. All I get is little jobs.”

I hear enormous “scarcity” in that self-talk. Do you realize that if you focus your thoughts and energy on scarcity that is what you will create more of in your life? I know that you don’t want that.

STOP and check in on what is going on with your relationship with money.

New opportunities, new clients and new money need to be acknowledged and celebrated regardless of what you think the size is. Expressing gratitude for all the blessing in your life needs to be a daily practice.

“I have noticed that the universe loves gratitude. The more grateful you are, the more goodies you get” – Louise Hay

Little jobs are fine because this is how you get clients to trust you. People are being cautious with their money these days. Your client wants to see some value and results before committing to larger projects.

You must teach each new client how valuable your service is in creating an environment for them that is beautiful, functional, and perhaps, cost conscious.

When you expect to see abundance in your life you will see the enormous opportunity and value of developing a good relationship with a new client who may follow for many years.

Here are 3 simple way s to get rid of scarcity thinking.

TIP #1 – Stop giving yourself “not good enough” messages. The more you do this, the more scarcity you invite into your life. Instead replace the message with “I attract great clients and plenty of money. I intend to serve these clients well. I am so grateful they have found me.”

TIP #2 – Consider what the true value of a good client is over a period of years. How many times will they buy a new house and need you to work on it? Or a redo on a room? Then there is the vacation home, and then, that referral to his brother who has an office project that needs help.

Each client is actually worth hundreds of thousands of dollars to you if you take good care of them.

Slow down and appreciate the opportunity, get to know your clients and build the relationships that pay off in the long term.

TIP #3 – The eyes that you choose to see your situation through determine the outcome. This is your choice, you can see the world full of ever expanding opportunities to explore and grow into and create an abundant life.

Or you can also make the conscious choice to see the world as place of shortages where there is never enough to go around and that is what you will find.

I prefer abundance myself.

Remember, Believing in the Possibility that what you want can actually happen, causes you to take Action in ways that create the actual Results that you are looking for.
