Are you comfortable with your design fee?
I talk to designers every day, often for the first time, and in that first conversation there’s always some kind of apology for a design fee or hourly charge.
People often start with “I know you’re going to tell me my rate is too low and I need to raise it, but…”
I’m not going to tell you to change your fee because you need to be comfortable with it, not me, but if you’re thinking like this it suggests to me that maybe you’re not comfortable with your fee right now.
Let’s talk about getting comfortable and being unapologetic about your design fee.
There’s a lot of confusion around what to charge, and the truth is it’s not a one-size-fits-all situation. You have to charge what feels right to you, but it’s important you know that you are worthy of high design fees.
Topics We Cover in This Episode:
- Why you shouldn’t compare your fees to others’
- Focusing on billing more hours
- Getting comfortable charging what you’re worth
- Why you shouldn’t feel guilty charging for something you love doing
- Setting yourself up for success in a job
- How to avoid getting stuck thinking you’re not good enough
- The value of learning
- Working on your ideal client
- The law of attraction
- Recognizing the value that you bring to people’s lives
Don’t let your brain tell you that you’re not worth it or that people won’t pay you if you charge more, because it’s not true. Your value is enormous. Your clients are grateful for the value you bring them and they will pay you for it.
